with information for Sunday, October 1

The 26th Sunday of Ordinary Time

World Communion Sunday is the only day ALL Christendom observes/celebrates Holy Communion. A few denominations only commemorate the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday in October and Maundy Thursday, which, as you know, is the night Jesus gathered with his disciples in the Upper Room before his arrest and crucifixion the next day.

World Communion Sunday offers a distinctive opportunity to experience Holy Communion in the context of the global community of faith. The first Sunday of October has become a time when Christians in every culture break bread and pour the cup to remember and affirm Christ as the Head of the Church. On that day, they remember that they are part of the whole body of believers. Whether shared in a grand cathedral, a mud hut, outside on a hilltop, in a meetinghouse, or in a storefront, Christians celebrate the communion liturgy in as many ways as there are congregations. World Communion Sunday can be both a profound worship experience and a time for learning more about our wider community of faith.

Overall, it is a holiday which aims to increase unity among Christians around the world and also give a message of solidarity, peace and harmony. It urges all Christians to always stay united and to always support each other despite all of the doctrinal differences.

Unity, justice, and peace for all is a big vision. But what better place to recommit ourselves to this mission than at the Lord’s Table?

See you in worship!

    Glen Ryland

    Remembrance Gathering Announcement

Glen was a gentleman and faithful member with a warm smile and encouraging spirit. He preferred sitting close to the pulpit and extended kindness and goodness to all. He served as a commissioned officer in the Army Air Corp in WWII. He was thrilled to be selected to serve in the Army Air Force’s first jet squadron. He loved his family (his beloved best friend left his side in 2013 after 66-years of marriage), church and country.

Friends are invited to attend Glen’s interment service on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at El Carmelo Cemetery, 68 Asilomar Avenue, Pacific Grove.
