with information for Sunday, November 26
The 34th Sunday of Ordinary Time
It is often referred to as metta, which in the Pali language refers to an inclusive, wise, and compassionate love, or the Loving Kindness Meditation.
From a place of meditation one chooses to practice love in their minds because one recognizes that love is more healing than judgment, hatred or fear. One repeats this phrase over and over and over and over until its wisdom infuses one’s being.
How about extending love beyond ourselves to those around us? Replace the “I” with a friends name, “May Dennis be filled with loving kindness. May Dennis be well…” Continue doing this as different people pop into your mind.
Then when you feel ready, invite yourself to think of people who trigger you---people you’re having a hard time forgiving, people who have hurt you, people who annoy you.
To end, visualize God’s love as ribbons going out from your heart to surround the world. For one moment feel what it feels like to simply put love out there—to everyone, to anyone. And pray that as you go about your day that love, joy, appreciation would be the gifts you convey.
See you in church where we’ll gather to celebrate friendship!!
It’s almost the most wonderful time of the year, when we share our gifts with the ones we love, and also take time to look into the community and help those in need. Last year, Church in the Forest adopted families selected by the Boys and Girls Club of Monterey County to receive our gifts of love. We will do it again this year.
The Adopt-a-Family program is a Boys and Girls Club initiative to support the most vulnerable children and families during the holidays. Each child receives 2 pairs of pants; 2 shirts; pajamas; sweatshirt; socks and shoes; books and a special gift.
Unwrapped gifts will be collected THIS SUNDAY after Church.
To have your gifts picked up from your home, please contact:

Directed by Daniel Henriks, I Cantori di Carmel is an auditioned volunteer chorus that seeks excellence in choral performance. Their programs include masterworks of the symphonic choral repertoire as well as lesser-known jewels for chorus. I Cantori di Carmel (Italian for The Singers of Carmel) has been bringing choral classics to the Monterey Peninsula since 1981. They perform concerts twice annually, in the spring and fall, at the Carmel Mission Basilica and other venues on the Central Coast. I Cantori di Carmel performs December 2 and 3 at the Carmel Mission at 8:00 pm. Additional performances are December 9, 2023, 8:00 pm at Five Wounds Portuguese National Church, San Jose, and December 10, 2023, 8:00 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Santa Cruz. The concert features romantic music of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Max Bruch, Joseph Gabriel Rheinberger and Engelbert Humperdinck. Tickets are available at http://www.icantori.org

The Altar Quilt
The colorful altar quilt and lectern scarf adorning the Church in the Forest sanctuary is a tapestry of some of the members and friends of Church in the Forest.
