George Gershwin made a visit to Carmel in late January 1937. The purpose was to meet local poet Robinson Jeffers. Una Jeffers reported in a letter that he came “with an armload of Robin’s books, stayed for tea, and played and sang in his thread of a voice.” He was working on the music for Goldwyn Follies of 1937, a movie musical starring Fred Astaire. There is a stunning similarity to Jeffers’ philosophy expressed in the lyrics to Love Is Here To Stay, one of the hit songs from that show. Listen for the themes of the transience of the distractions of modern life, the context of geological time, and that love endures.
Amazingly, I found these exactly duplicated in the following Bible verses:
And the world and its cravings are passing away… I John 2:17 The mountains and hills may crumble, but my love for you will never end.
Isaiah 54:10
