We Are Marching in the Light of God (“Siyahamba”)……arr. Robert Buckley Farlee
“Light.” As I thought about this theme for today, I remembered a line from an old hymn, “Sometimes a light surprises…” Inspired by the phrases from the songs you will hear this morning, you can imagine many ways in which light shines in and surprises you with new revelations. Share the experience of the English poet, William Cowper, who rose above prolonged struggles with depression to write:
“Sometimes a light surprises the child of God who sings:
the light of one who rises with gentle, healing wings.
When comforts are declining, God grants the soul again
a season of clear shining, to cheer it after rain.” (Published in Olney Hymns, 1779)
