“God thunders wondrously with his voice he does great things which we cannot comprehend. For to the snow he says, ‘Fall on the earth;’ and to the shower and rain, ‘Be strong.’ Then the beasts go into their liars, and remain in their dens. From its chamber comes the whirlwind, and cold from the scattering winds. By the breath of God ice is given, and the broad waters are frozen fast.”
— Job 37: 5-10
Consider your contemporary winter in the midwest, the northeast, and even Texas and Florida. It’s long and hard. And mandatory. I prefer elective winter such as ours, where you can cruise off to the Sierras, perhaps to ski. Then after a few self-indulgent hours in the stunning beauty of high-altitude winter, you can cruise right back to Paradise. Smug and warm. Not forgetting a prayer of thanksgiving, including supplication for deliverance from long-term justice.
