How do you thank someone who is a colleague, advisor, confidante, and mentor, who has a fast and wicked wit, who always has your back, and who has for 24 years been a kind and generous friend?
My words are not adequate, so I’ll express my deep appreciation and gratitude with music that she loves, and with these ancient words from my ancestral past:
Dear Mary,
May the road rise to meet you, may the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand.
