Welcome today to young musicians Taylan Dincer, David Elyoussoufi, Josef Elyoussoufi, Chris Fenstermaker, and Joe Smock, along with Aleksey Klyushnik, the director of the Youth Music Monterey Cello Quartet. The four cellists are part of the YMM Honors Orchestra, and students in Aleksey’s cello studio. They play in YMM Chamber Players, which he directs. The quartet has been performing at various venues on Monterey Peninsula since fall 2021.
Cellist Taylan Dincer graduated from Carmel High School and will attend UC Berkeley in the fall, studying Music and Cognitive Sciences.
Joe Smock is a graduate of York School and will attend the University of Washington to study Biochemistry and meteorology.
David Elyoussoufi just finished his sophomore year with Ocean Grove Charter School. He led the cello section of the Central Coast Section Orchestra in 2022 and won the Youth Music Monterey Honors Concerto Competition in 2023.
Josef Elyoussoufi is a piano student of Barbara Ruziska and graduated from York School. Josef was awarded a first prize for piano by the Music Teachers’ Association of California and selected for the final round of the Zeiter Piano Competition at the University of the Pacific.
Chris Fenstermaker has graduated from Pacific Grove High School. He will attend Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa where he will study both piano and cello.
