About Today’s Music
What’s behind the Music? From reading the titles and reflecting on the texts, we can see that the music that we hear today was created as an act of service. This music was inspired by the faith of composers and writers and performers. Behind the hymns and songs is a response to the deep awareness of God’s goodness. God’s goodness caused the psalmist to sing, “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all of God’s benefits!”
One of today’s composers, Anne Krentz Organ, wrote that “the Spirit works in mysterious ways. … week after week, I would be playing the communion hymn(s). It occurred to me that some “Reflections” on hymn tunes for holy communion might be useful and they were subsequently published as my first collection of arrangements.”
As we return to familiar music again and again in our memories this week, let it inspire us to work in new ways to serve God.
