Welcome to Max Afifi, who grew up on the Monterey Peninsula and is a recent graduate of the University of California, Berkeley. He obtained degrees in Spanish and Cognitive Science during his time there. Although not explicitly a part of his studies, music has been an integral part of his life for as long as he can remember. In high school, he won numerous awards from the Paderewski Festival, the Carmel Bach Festival, and other local contests. His most recent teacher, Barbara Ruzicka, has been an inspiration to him and with her encouragement, he has returned to the piano to perform for you today. Please enjoy his setlist. For personal and professional inquiries, you may reach him at amaxafifi@gmail.com.
In celebrating God’s gift of music, think of the many people and talents who came together in various parts of our worship today: three composers for piano, one composer for organ, seven songwriters, six poets, a piano builder, a piano technician, an organ builder, an organ technician, a pianist, a singer, an organist, the teachers who taught all of the composers, performers, builders, and technicians, and their teachers before them. Take a melody with you in your memory this week for enjoyment and inspiration.
