“All Together Now”
He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands……African American, arr.
Maya’s Prayer for Peace……Tom Trenney
Based on the poem Prayer by Maya Angelou
Draw us in the Spirit’s Tether……Harold Friedell, arr. James Biery
Today’s music is inspired by the theme of World Communion Sunday and features a complete setting of the poem, Prayer by Maya Angelou. Angelou is one of America’s best known contemporary poets, having brought the voice of African Americans to world-wide recognition as the poet for President Bill Clinton’s inauguration. Tom Trenney, the composer, is Minister of Music at First-Plymouth Church in Lincoln, Nebraska and Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choirs at Nebraska Wesleyan University. Their music, along with a gospel vignette from Godspell and the popular “Whole World in His Hands,” bring home the message of unity across the times and places that separate us. Thinking of the world in God’s hands opens our thoughts to the themes of creation that Pastor Ken will explore throughout October.
