FROM OUR PASTOR
Tuesday, December 22, 2020
I have been blessed beyond measure to serve our Lord with you since 2013. One could not have asked for more support, love, and care from a congregation. Serving as your minister came at a pivotal time in my life, as I felt God’s call to return to parish ministry after a decade in urban renewal through CSUMB.
In this Advent season of new beginnings, Nancy and I have a new beginning. I have submitted my resignation to our Pastor and Board. This decision was not easy, but the time seemed ripe for a new chapter. We purchased a home in Port Orchard, WA that helps meet our long-term goals of stability and creativity.
I am inspired by Saint Simeon, whose story I preach on this Sunday. Simeon had the ability to recognize what to do and when to do it. He knew he didn’t have to know all the details, only lean on and listen to God. The key is being aware, being alert, being mindful.
And, I am inspired by Simeon’s age! He reminds us that one is never too old for God to use in creative ways. Whatever our age, may we be available to God!
This has been a year of deep personal joy and challenges. Not only have we had to adjust to isolation and limited interaction, our home goods store was closed and Nancy’s father died. Through it all you have been gracious, loving and encouraging.
Please know my deep appreciation for the gift you’ve given me to be called your pastor and friend.
