We celebrate Mother’s Day in worship this week. It’s always a serene and beautiful Sunday, after which comes “normal” Monday: all the hard work and questions and conflicts of being a modern parent.
You may have seen a new television ad, promoting the wisdom of bribing your darlings at dinnertime to eat their veggies, by paying them with French Fries – something the Ore-Ida company calls, “Potato Pay.”
Here’s a spoof of the original television ad that humorously captures the confusion of the parents about the wisdom of bribing their kids (click here)
We parents, grandparents, aunties and uncles need real wisdom to raise our children. In our sermon series on Proverbs, we find helpful teachings from God’s Wisdom, but with a wonderful twist. Wisdom, in Proverbs, is depicted as a feminine force, a female energy that pervades all creation. Dare we say, a Mothering Power?
This Mothers’ Day we’ll all be “mothered” by Wisdom, to help us be better parents.
