Mercy me!
Can’t you just hear Miss Marple of Agatha Christie fame uttering these words? Just hearing the words evokes a picture of an old fashioned prim and proper woman of days gone by.
But what about the other kind of mercy? The mercy that is ever present to us, if we would just accept it. The mercy that we hope people extend to us…but that sometimes we admittedly fail to extend to others. The mercy that takes us in when perhaps we least deserve it. That is what mercy is all about: the taking in and the second chance… not only for ourselves but for others. It is sometimes hard to move beyond negative first impressions and accept each other “as is”; yet that is what we are called to do.
